The Grand Kids Festival Banner Design Contest

The Grand Kids Festival Committee is thrilled to announce the 22nd Annual Grand Kids Festival Banner Contest design winners. Twelve designs were selected from Galveston County School students as winners of The Grand Kids Festival Banner Design Contest for 2017. The winning entries will be on display in Edna’s Room at The Grand during the January 14, 2017 ArtWalk at The Grand.  Exhibit open from 6-9 p.m. This years’ banner contest theme is “Celebrating Sports”.

(Grades K-2)

1st place – Colin Boone, Trinity Episcopal School, Galveston

2nd place – Avery Lozano, Coastal Village Elementary School, Galveston

3rd place – Claire Sonstein, Trinity Episcopal School, Galveston

(Grades 3-4)

The Banner Design Contest is a part of The Grand Kids Festival, an annual outdoor arts festival presented by The Grand 1894 Opera House. Created as an extension to The Grand’s Serious Fun Children’s programming and designed to raise an appreciation and awareness of the importance of fine arts for children, The Grand Kids Festival is a community outreach event presented by The Grand, made possible only through the generosity of many organizations, foundations, businesses and individuals. The 2017 festival will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Founding sponsors of the Festival include Mary Ainslie, The Gladys B. Foundation in honor of Robert Richard Thornton, The Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund, Bank of America and The Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston.

Sponsors for this year’s event (to date) include The Jamail Galveston Foundation, the Permanent Endowment Fund of Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, CenterPoint Energy, Lyda Ann Quinn Thomas, Houston Family and Houston Baby Magazine, Yaga’s Children’s Fund, Rotary Club of Galveston Foundation, Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees, and Texas Commission on the Arts.

Featuring four outdoor performance areas, as well as on The Grand’s stage and over 40 unique booths and attractions offering hands on activities for children and children-oriented arts and crafts, The Grand Kids Festival has become a favorite springtime activity for families throughout the Houston/Galveston area and beyond.
