If you’ve ever dreamed of performing on stage at The Grand 1894 Opera House – this is your chance! As part of Galveston Island’s Galveston Cares weekend, The Grand is opening its doors (and the stage) for an open mic event from Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017.
Singers, instrumentalists, dancers, poets and more are invited to perform for up to 7 minutes on stage. The Grand’s nine-foot Steinway piano will be available as well as one microphone. Music groups are welcomed but must play acoustically – no speakers, plug-ins or monitors will be accepted.
Bring your talent and earn bragging rights to “appearing on stage at The Grand!”
The Grand is also open for free, self-guided tours through October 31, 2017 as part of Galveston Cares. In addition, 20% discount on tickets to Chita & Tune (Sept. 23rd), and Jimmy Webb – The Glen Campbell Years (Oct. 7) are also offered.
A MESSAGE FROM THE GRAND 1894 OPERA HOUSE: After the 1900 Storm, The Grand rebuilt in a year and became a place of healing through the arts. After Ike, we once again played a similar role for our community. Today, we are in the unique position of being spared the ravages of hurricane Harvey. Please know that we are here for you as a community gathering place – a place to weep, to remember, to heal, and to celebrate life through the arts.
As part of ongoing relief for those impacted by hurricane Harvey, The Grand is accepting relief donations of water (large quantities), non-perishable food items, diapers, pet food/supplies, toiletries, batteries, flashlights and paper goods. Donation barrels will be at performances through October.
