It’s time to grab your crayons, colored pencils, markers, or paint and enter The Grand Kids Festival Banner Design Contest. Sponsored by The Grand 1894 Opera House, as part of The Grand Kids Festival set for April 2nd, the Banner Design Contest is open to all Galveston and Harris county students in grades Kindergarten through eighth.
Not your average coloring contest, this competition highlights winning designs that are actually re-created by students on vinyl banners and displayed from light posts throughout the festival area. Banner designs will also be re-created as the cover art on specially-designed note cards.
This year’s theme is “Our Animal Friends.” Regardless of whether you select to draw your own pet, an animal in which you have interest, or even create your own personal animal design – this contest is sure to stretch one’s imagination. Four winning entries will be selected from each of four age-group categories. Winners will then be asked to recreate their winning design on the vinyl banner and will receive Grand Kids Festival tickets for each of their family members, a special Grand Kids Festival T-shirt, and a set of note cards depicting their winning design. The four First Place winners will also have their banner entries entered into a special “People’s Choice Award” competition that will take place during the upcoming 22nd Annual Galveston Home & Garden Show, the weekend of March 19-20, at the San Luis Convention Center, with the winner announced during the Kids Festival, Saturday, April 2nd.
Deadline to enter is Monday, February 21 and all entries must be submitted to The Grand 1894 Opera House at 2020 Postoffice Street, Galveston, Texas 77550.
